In the heart of the historic center of Lecce.
The construction of the palace located in Vico del Pittaccio - Piazzetta D'Ajmo in Lecce is a fascinating testimony of the late Renaissance, dating back to the second half of the 15th century. This dating is supported not only by the materials used for its construction, some of which are still visible on the left side of the main door in Vico del Pittaccio, but also by the analysis of the architectural layout which follows a "chessboard" pattern, typical of era.
The "chessboard" construction technique represents an interesting chapter in the history of local architecture, remaining in use until the early years of the 16th century. This characteristic style has left an indelible imprint on the urban morphology of Lecce, contributing to its unique architectural identity.
During the 17th century, the palace underwent important additions, including the annexation of a court, whose function was mainly defensive. This addition reflects the historical context of the time, when the advent of firearms led to the need to strengthen housing structures against possible night attacks coming from the street.
The palace has gone through several phases of restoration over the centuries, but one of the most significant took place in the late 1990s. This intervention was conducted under the supervision of the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, which guaranteed rigorous compliance with the guidelines for the conservation of the historical-artistic heritage. Thanks to these efforts, the palace continues to represent a point of reference in the city's architectural landscape, testifying to its rich history and cultural importance.
